USS Bainbridge: Don’t Tread On Me
Wednesday, April 8th, 2009UPDATE: 9:00am PST
FBI is consulting with Navy on hostage situation. Lifeboat is out of fuel and dead in the water. Maersk Alabama has left to a Kenya port. Just the four pirates and Captain Phillips and a US Navy destroyer.

The Really:
The answer to a boatload of Somali pirates 350 miles from shore is a United States Navy destroyer? Arggh matey.Let’s hope they try something a little more subtle to release the captain being held in a boat next to the Alabama which was boarded off Somalia (and through the actions of the captain and the fearless crew were repelled). Maybe some MAVs or SEALS.
The Bainbridge is likely to give the pirates pause and that is mostly its purpose in all its
United States naval destroyer glory.
1st of all the bainbridge is NOT NUCLEAR!
The previous poster is correct. The current USS Bainbridge (DDG 96) is not nuclear powered. It seems you are confusing the current USS Bainbridge (DDG 96) with the previous USS Bainbridge (CGN 25), which was decommissioned in 1996. CGN 25 was nuclear powered, while DDG 96 has a gas turbine propulsion system.
Thank you both for the correction. Beautiful ship though, no?
Beautiful? Hmmm. Not a bad looking ship I guess, but as a former sub-driver it looks pretty much like every other target to me:
