Sexy Sanford Emails: But How Did "The State" Get Them?
Wednesday, June 24th, 2009
The Really: So, the McClatchey owned newspaper The State has had the info on Governor Sanford and his mistress (how do you solve a problem like “Maria”) since December?
UPDATE: On the Rachel Maddow Show on MSNBC this date, the reporter who met the Gov. at the Atlanta airport (Gina Smith from The State newspaper) said the emails were sent in as anonymous tips along with several other tips at various times that the Governor had an Argentine friend.
But they were ready to go with the story now and the Governor’s teary, rambling press conference pales only in comparison to the release in The State (thestate.com) of romantic emails:
Our favorite:
You have a particular grace and calm that I adore. You have a level of sophistication that so fitting with your beauty. I could digress and say that you have the ability to give magnificent gentle kisses, or that I love your tan lines or that I love the curve of your hips, the erotic beauty of you holding yourself (or two magnificent parts of yourself) in the faded glow of the night’s light – but hey, that would be going into sexual details …
But here is the big question: “Who gave the emails to the newspaper?” and who would have access to them…Maria? Sanford? Mrs. Sanford? A Hacker? The plot thickens.
I would like to know how they got the emails, too. It's really disturbing, in this technology age, how vulnerable our private information can be. Obviously the guy was conflicted, and none of us are in the position to judge his actions — only God can do that. Publishing these private exchanges is just terrible, not only for the parties involved, but for Sanford's wife and children, as well as Maria's children (and husband, if he's still around). We know about the affair, we know the governor went AWOL and we know he did not use public funds for his trip. That's really all we need to know. It's nobody's business what he and Maria said to each other, and whoever gave their email messages to the newspaper is sick and pitiful and needs to get a life.
Are you kidding? It was probably some very smart 12 year old hacker with liberal parents. Pass the popcorn.
I would guess based on what Gina Smith said it is likely to be someone close to the Govenor who disapproved of what he was doing. I will bet it was a staffer.
The constant slurs against his staffers should be actionable. (This to writing practice among others.) According to The State – a paper I wouldn't use to line the birdcage- the Gov saw a woman about 4 times in S America. The staff was not sneaking her in and out of the state house or fielding phone calls from her. I believe his wife leaked emails and had a pretty good idea of where he was all along. She's just not honest enough to say so and couldn't care less about the aspersions cast on hard working state employees.
I guess we can have joint defense counsel then.
