As the masses are wooed by Presidential hopeful Barack Obama and his HOPE platform there are many issues that tend to be glossed over or straight up not addressed by the Dems this year. One of the most important is Barack’s decision to change his mind about how he was going to fund his campaign. At first, he publicly stated and legally documented that he would run his general election campaign only using public campaign financing such as John McCain is doing. When Barack found out that he could make much much more money then he thought he could though individual donors he did a 180 and decided not to accept and use public campaign financing. This has been the source of many an attack by John McCain and Republicans.

Right about now some may be thinking, “whats the big deal?” The big deal is two fold here. First, in my opinion, if Barack wanted to change his mind he should have done so publicly. By owning this decision this way, he would have been subject to less scrutiny and could have saved us all a lot of wondering about his choice. The fact that he just did it and has never really addressed it makes me a little leary along with giving his opponents a large cache of ammunition to use against him. The second part of the big deal is the argument behind accepting public campaign financing over private donations. Private donations are easier to mask and hide thus making it more difficult to find out thier legatimacy while public campaign financing is very transparent. Example, one could take steal a credit card and make a donation to Barack Obama “Hope Campaign” or one could make many different contributions under different cards very easily.

What makes this decision even dumber for the Obama Campaign is that now they are saying they will not release the names of donors because it will take too much work. REALLY? Come on now Barack. If your 180 public campaign financing wasnt shady enough now you are going to not release the names of your donors? Bad Idea!

Barack, if you should happen win this one please dont make the same mistake next time. This election could use a few less scandals and a bit more honestly all around. If you lose this one, your new campaign slogan is going to be “DOPE”…
