Voices were cracking today, not because they were emotional but because they were tired. As I sit on my bed and type this, I am listening to John McCain, Sarah Palin, Barack Obama and Joe Biden give their last ditch effort speeches. They are tired, we are all tired. We need “Change” from our new President. We need them to put “Country First”. Whoever it is, which ever of you wins this DAMN election, please take care of us because we need it.

I will fall asleep with my TV on in an hour or so. I will wake up a few times tonight to the same clips running on the same TV station of the same politicians saying the same things. Nothing will change until the end of work tomorrow and even then, it may not change. All we can do is Hope!

As the masses are wooed by Presidential hopeful Barack Obama and his HOPE platform there are many issues that tend to be glossed over or straight up not addressed by the Dems this year. One of the most important is Barack’s decision to change his mind about how he was going to fund his campaign. At first, he publicly stated and legally documented that he would run his general election campaign only using public campaign financing such as John McCain is doing. When Barack found out that he could make much much more money then he thought he could though individual donors he did a 180 and decided not to accept and use public campaign financing. This has been the source of many an attack by John McCain and Republicans.

Right about now some may be thinking, “whats the big deal?” The big deal is two fold here. First, in my opinion, if Barack wanted to change his mind he should have done so publicly. By owning this decision this way, he would have been subject to less scrutiny and could have saved us all a lot of wondering about his choice. The fact that he just did it and has never really addressed it makes me a little leary along with giving his opponents a large cache of ammunition to use against him. The second part of the big deal is the argument behind accepting public campaign financing over private donations. Private donations are easier to mask and hide thus making it more difficult to find out thier legatimacy while public campaign financing is very transparent. Example, one could take steal a credit card and make a donation to Barack Obama “Hope Campaign” or one could make many different contributions under different cards very easily.

What makes this decision even dumber for the Obama Campaign is that now they are saying they will not release the names of donors because it will take too much work. REALLY? Come on now Barack. If your 180 public campaign financing wasnt shady enough now you are going to not release the names of your donors? Bad Idea!

Barack, if you should happen win this one please dont make the same mistake next time. This election could use a few less scandals and a bit more honestly all around. If you lose this one, your new campaign slogan is going to be “DOPE”…

Depending on the channel (CNN, FOX, MSNBC) or the Poll (AP, CNN/ABC. NY Times), Senator Barack Obama is up 10 points or only 1. Personally, I don’t believe in polls. Polls, just like the humans who conduct them, are inherently flawed. I will know who won the election when the other guy has called in and conceded the election. Even then I will still be suspicious but I will at least feel like I can stop watching the news 25 hours a day.

It’s crazy. I know that when I turn on the TV I will see the same thing I saw that morning and even a week ago. I will hear pro this and con that on everything they can think of. Yet, I still turn on that TV and fall asleep to it. I ask myself, what am I waiting for? Do I really expect to hear something different? No, I am just a plain old addict, what can I say… So instead of fighting it, I will overdose on it until the cows come home on November 5th.

Today I dropped my mail-in ballot in the mailbox. It felt good to vote for something and someone I believed in. All I will say is that I hope enough of the Electorial College feels the same as I do. It should be interesting to say the least.

YO! I’M OVER HERE

The Really: We all woke up this morning because Colin Powell really wanted to tell us something important.

The former Secretary of State for the first George W. Bush administration announced today that he will crossing party lines and voting for Senator Barack Obama in 16 days. Colin Powell stated that Obama “is a transformational figure” and has the “ability to inspire”. Powell expressed his disappointment with the republican ticket because of what he viewed as a negative turn in John McCain’s campaign.

This has to come as a major blow to the republican ticket. I don’t think they actually thought that Colin Powell was going to support them, however, I have a feeling they would of rather him just say nothing because many folks, namely republicans, respect and listen to what Colin Powell has to say. It should be interesting to watch the polls this week to see how much of an impact Powell’s statement has.

The only sad or negative side to this I see is that I am 100% sure you will hear something from someone about how Colin Powell did this because it is a face issue. That will just go to show us how far this country has not come and how far we still have to go.
